The four possible causes are:
- Heat from the washer could be causing evaporation of water/solvent to yield a thicker product.
- Fabric Softener and Laundry Detergent may be mixing at some point to cause gelling.
- Build-up in the dispenser is occurring which will cause clogging over time.
- Not using a formulation specifically made for HE machines.
We recommend that you use products that specifically state that they are made or safe for HE machines.
The third scenario is pretty common and can be alleviated by flushing the dispenser with a non-chlorine bleach/water mixture. Another possibility is that it is the fabric softener formulation itself has too many solids.
