Why did Seventh Generation reduce the post consumer recycled content in its Bathroom Tissue and Paper Towels?

We have always believed that creating a market for post-consumer content is desirable. We now believe that all paper, both pre- and post- consumer, that would end up in a landfill otherwise, are valuable resources to recycle.

Our new program features the best combination of performance, sustainability and economics in the company's history. One of the ways in which we're able to deliver a product that meets the consumer's needs for performance and softness at an affordable cost is through adjusting certain components of our paper recipe, which includes post-consumer content. The cost of post-consumer content is getting higher, and the availability is decreasing. These are factors that we have to weigh in our efforts to bring the best recycled paper products to the market.
