Are Seventh Generation tampons certified organic?

Our tampons are certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). The organic certification under GOTS applies to the cotton used to make our tampons. Under the organic standard, cotton is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides. GOTS also requires that accessories (the applicator), additives (water repellent wax on withdrawal cord and applicator) and the packaging meet an extensive set of human and environmental health, and social criteria. Specifically, the raw materials, intermediates and final product and accessories must meet stringent limits regarding unwanted residues. The fiber used to make the applicator and packaging comes from wood which is sourced from sustainably managed forests under FSC or PEFC certified operations, and in the case of the leaflets from post-consumer recycled paper.
